Sheer pira, which means sweet milk in Dari, is a traditional Afghan homemade dessert! In Afghanistan, this sweet treat is usually made for special occasions and celebrations such as weddings or parties.
Ingredients:
2 cups white sugar
2 cups water
4 cups whole milk powder, like NIDO
1 tbsp. ground cardamom
1 tbsp. rose water
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chopped pistachios
Instructions:
Put the sugar and water in a saucepan over low heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.
Simmer, without stirring, for 10-15 minutes or until a thick syrup is formed. Do not let the syrup turn brown. Put the milk powder, cardamom, rose water, pistachios and walnuts in a bowl. Add the syrup and continue to stir until they stick together.
Pour the mixture into a flat tray and spread it.
Straighten it and add extra dried fruit of your choice, almonds or more pistachio on top.
Leave for 30 minutes or until it’s cool.
Cut into diamond or square shapes to serve.
